Edinburgh City of Literature Six Minute Reads

Six Minute Reads

I am absolutely thrilled that a story from Tâigael: Stories from Taiwanese&Gaelic, co-edited by Will Buckingham and I, and published at Wind&Bones Books has been included in the Edinburgh City of Literature’s Six Minute Reads!

And to quote Will Buckingham, ‘this book was a labour of love, built with endless passion on a shoestring. And now our wonderful Scottish translators and writers are sharing the company of Ian Rankin, Val McDermid and many of Scotland’s greats.’ I really couldn’t have put it better myself.

Congratulations to writer Elissa Hunter-Dorans and translator Lisa MacDonald.

Edinburgh City of Literature are the charity behind Edinburgh’s status as the world’s first UNESCO City of Literature.

“Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature, in partnership with the National Literacy Trust, is encouraging passengers across Scotland to dedicate just six minutes of their day to reading with a new free digital collection of short fiction.

Research has shown that reading for just six minutes can reduce stress levels by up to 68%. Designed for busy journeys and everyday moments, Six-Minute Reads brings together contemporary fiction by some of Scotland’s most celebrated writers, with every story selected to be enjoyed in around six minutes.

The collection includes contributions from Sir Ian Rankin, Val McDermid, Ann Cleeves, Matt Haig, Sir Alexander McCall Smith, Niamh Ní Mhaoileoin, Mairi Kidd and Andrés N. Ordorica, alongside other famed and emerging voices.

It features Beano Annual 2027, alongside the winning entry from the Six-Minute Reads Flash Fiction Competition by Jasmeen Kanwal.”
