My job as a writer and freelance creative producer is, as you might imagine, extremely varied. This means that over the years I’ve worked on many projects with many different people and teams in different contexts.

I love getting reminders of the projects I’ve been involved in and this recent one (via Facebook memories) was no exception. Back in 2017, whilst researching and writing my PhD at the University of Leicester, I was part of the editorial team for The New Luciad.

The New Luciad is a university based publication, situated in the Centre for New Writing, that seeks to provide a platform for a variety of creative work including prose, poetry, creative non-fiction, photography and artwork.

All students studying at the University of Leicester are eligible to submit and, as editors, we considered creative writing such as plays, short stories, poetry, flash fiction, extracts from novels as well as works of creative non-fiction such as travel writing and reportage. Artwork and photography was also on the list!

I really enjoyed working with fellow editors Joanna Wilson-Scott and Kassie Duke, considering all the writing we received, shortlisting work and then working with writers to edit their submissions in to final shape for the publication.

It’s always an honour and a privilege when people trust you with their writing.
