Taiwan Insight: A Special Edition

Taiwan Insight

"Why translate from Taiwanese to Gaelic and back again? What possible reason could there be to publish a book of translations between these two small languages? And what challenges are there in embarking on such an enterprise? Since the publication of Tâigael: Stories from Taiwanese & Gaelic (Wind&Bones Books 2025), many people have asked us these questions. What, people have asked us, are we even up to?"

I’m really thrilled to have my article Tâigael: Orchids, Maternal Care, and a New Rosetta Stone published in Taiwan Insight.

Taiwan Insight is an online publication offering a platform for scholars and other experts of all disciplines to discuss issues related to Taiwan.

This was co-written by my Wind&Bones co-director and collaborator Dr Will Buckingham. Huge thanks to Chee-han Wu the brilliant editor at Taiwan Insight. And congratulations to Tâigael writers Elissa Hunter-Dorans, Lisa MacDonald and Naomi Sím on their articles in the special edition too.
